Trial by Makeup

Tonight after work I have my bridal makeup trial run! Yay!!!! I'm extra pumped about it because one of B1's cousins is a professional makeup artist and she's doing my makeup for me for FREE.  IN the hotel room!  So, yeah, I'm going to feel like a rock star. :)

This morning after my shower I thought about taking a picture of my face without makeup but then thought better of it.  I'm not hideous without it, but I just feel better when I do have something on.  And so, I took a "before" picture during lunch today.  So this is with makeup but after it's worn off a little throughout the day.

Not bad.  (Though I have a weird smile...I guess it's because I took it myself.)  But just wait until you see the "after".  I'll post that either later tonight or tomorrow.  Happy Friday everyone!!  And, the after:

Buoy Shack

Craft Night

I was on the hunt for authentic lobster buoy's, as you know but didn't find any that were affordable enough to buy for the wedding.  Luckily I found these at Christmas Tree Shop for $5 each!  They're not exactly the shape I wanted, but they are wooden and heavy and so they'll fit the bill.  The stripes on the blue one were yellow, so I painted over them and made them coral.  And the white buoy was boring so I painted that whole thing coral and kept its navy blue stripes.  Once they are both complete, I'm thinking of painting "Mr." on the blue one and "Mrs." on the coral one and using them on our chairs at the sweetheart table.

Either that, or painting the date on them and putting them on the gift table with the lobster trap.  I don't quite know yet.  But it's fun to play around anyway.

I also wrapped that twine you see in the picture around a clear glass vase and attached a metal anchor to it.  My thought is that we can put candles in these and put them on the fireplace mantel at the reception.  I didn't quite love it though, so I'm going to work on it a little more and see how I can make them better.  I think the first step will be getting thicker twine or even a small gauge rope.  We'll see.

Tonight a friend of mine is coming over to help me cut the invitations.  Hopefully we'll get them all done tonight so I can start sticking them in the pockets.  I would be thrilled if I could have these all done by the end of next week.  Thrilled!

Tonight's dinner is pulled pork tacos.  I'm even using the small crock pot that we registered for and got!  It has ground chile's, garlic, bay leaves, cinnamon, pepper, a tiny splash of cider vinegar, honey and chicken stock in there right now.  I'm going to taste it in a little bit to see if I need to bump it up a bit.  Since it's new, you never know how it'll come out and 99% of the time, I tweak it to my liking.  But maybe I'll get lucky and this'll be the one that I don't have to tweak!  If it's good, I'll share.

The recipe, that is...

I'd like to start visiting and commenting on blogs again.  The first step though, is blogging here regularly.  We'll see how that goes. :)

Showered with Love

I finished them!  All of my small knots are tied.  I say small, because I have to tie 12 medium sized monkey fists.  These will take a little longer.  Even with directions, I tend to get caught up in these and have to start over a few times.  These are for our centerpieces.

Our wedding's gonna be kind of cool, huh? :)

Today I'm wrestling with not feeling too good, gloomy weather, and an annoying person who is back in the office after a few days out.  I want to leave early, and I could because my boss is out, but as the office supervisor now, I feel as I need to be a role model and stick it out if I can.  Plus, you know...I was out for 3 weeks on medical leave in March.  I don't want to push it.

Next weekend is our shower.  B1 is going to be there, which I'm thrilled about.  Not only is it funner to have someone to drive home to CT with (and he drives home, so I can be sleepy!), but it doesn't make sense to me why the boys are excluded in the first place.  I mean, both of us like family and friends, food and frolic, so why not include the REASON I'm getting married too?  Right?  Right.

So it's next weekend.  I bought a pretty dress and a pair of pretty sandals and am looking forward to feeling pretty.  The thing is, not a lot of people have RSVP'd for the event.  They have until Saturday to do so, but I feel like most of our MA family and friends haven't said they are coming.  Or not coming.  And it's frustrating.  Why wouldn't they just email my sister when they know?

It's just rude, in my opinion.

I know, I know, they have until Saturday.  But honestly, I feel like 95% of those people know whether they are coming or not.  And it's common courtesy to tell the people who invited you so they can start planning.  Right?  Right.  I guess I'm just disappointed that these people might not come.  And it makes me happy that our wedding is here in MA and not in CT (which, incidentally, is half way for BOTH of our families) because it appears like some people don't like to drive 2 hours.

And also, we didn't invite a lot of friends, because we aren't inviting them to the wedding because we have huge families.  And it would be tacky to invite them to the shower and not the wedding.  But now, I almost wish we did...

Oh well.  Either way, we're going to enjoy our day. Together.  Which is the most important part of all of this.

Things are back to normal.  Thank. God.  I can't stand not being on the same page as my B1.  It's heartbreaking...

Has the weather been crappy where you are too?  Here in Boston, it's been cold and rainy for quite some time now, making it sort of impossible for us to sail.  Though the boat's been in the water now for about two weeks, we have yet to actually get out into the harbor.  It's been nice to hang out and sleep on the boat, but we'd really love to be out there, racing along the the others, exploring new places.  Cross your fingers that this weekend will be nice for us.

I have one month and one week to finish the invitations and then we have to send them.  I'm almost there-all of the ribbon is wrapped around the pockets and the little double square closures are also done and attached.  I finished those last night while we were watching TV.  Today during my lunch break I worked on the knot closures which will be the finishing touch which secures everything in place.

I have to admit that I felt a little creepy pulling this big wad of twine out of my bag today.  It felt like I was either collecting hair or making some sort of voodoo doll.

Twine.  Lots and lots of twine...

I managed to tie 26 knots in all during the one hour break I had.  Of course this included fiddling with the computer so I could play some tunes and answering a few text messages about flower girl shoes.  But I feel good about the fact that I'm on my way to being done with these.  I think after the gym tonight, this will be my project.  I have 75 to make.  If I didn't tell you before, this is the knot we are tying during the ceremony in place of lighting a unity candle.  Since we're sailors, we thought it only fitting.

Carrick Bend Knot
Perhaps by the end of the week the invitations might actually all be assembled!  I have a friend coming over on Wednesday to help me cut the inserts and the actual invitation which I'll then glue into the pockets.  It's been quite the process making these invites, but as they come together, I get happier and happier that I decided to make them, instead of simply buying generic invites like so many other people do.

102 days.  That's not a lot of time before we tie the knot.
