FD: Part 2

Last night was both nerve racking and fun. Nerve racking because there were no planned games like during the day, so everyone was free to group together with friends and not mingle and fun because after a little while, I was sitting with people who were nice.

When I first arrived, there were only a handful of people there. I didn't feel comfortable with most of them yet and none of my "safe" people had arrived. So instead of staying outside where most of the people were, I went into the living room and sat with a girl and her husband and young son. Which was fine. But also a little weird.

The host's house had a very nice in the ground pool and the little boy naturally wanted to go out to see it. I started to feel nervous at this point. Luckily, on the way out I passed the "juice" bar and got myself a nice glass of sangria.

Outside I spotted my manager standing next to a man who I've talked to a few times so I walked over to them and said hi. After a few minutes my boss walked away and I was left with this man. It was awkward because he's a bit shy. And he was visibly nervous. And his jokes weren't really funny which made me feel a little nervous. So I did what any girl in my position would do-I excused myself and went to the bathroom.

Somehow when I came out the rest of the clan arrived and I stuck near 2 girls who've been extra nice to me. At one point though, I was left alone with just their boyfriends/husbands and that, yet again, was weird. There were plenty of drinks to go around and this is what led to me having fun.

No, I didn't get drunk at all. But I did have a little too much to drink for my liking in the beginning of the party. I went to sit with a few people by the pool and luckily more people came over, and all in all, it was a nice time. I met and hung out with a few new people who I work with and got to know their personalities. I learned that 2 of the girls live within a block of me, which might be nice once we get to know each other better.

Oh, and my team WON the scavenger hunt! I have to admit that I didn't have much to do with it because 3 of my team mates answered all of the questions before we even started-but it was fun anyway.

So there you go-I survived FD and I have to say that at this moment in time I am 100% happy that I made this move to this new company, close to home. :)

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Fun Day??

So, I'm sure that most of you have had a few drinks with your co-workers and maybe even your bosses. Nothing out of the ordinary there, right? How many of you have been soaked down to your underwear with those same people?

No one? Well, today I marks a monumental occasion for me. Not only is it my first fun day, but it's the first time I've given a wet t-shirt show to everyone I work with.

Fun started with breakfast (and drinks). We then did a scavenger hunt (which was fun-still don't know who won yet) and ended up on the common for some wiffle ball, lawn darts and other "fun" stuff. They also rented sausage carts, fried dough carts and lemonade carts for us...

Just as we were all getting together to eat, dark ominous clouds started rolling in. Then loud claps of thunder could be heard...and then...lightening.

Now, we are stranded in the middle of the common without our bus and without shelter. Ok-I lie-we had one tiny pop up tent and about 50 people. So, yeah-we knew we were going to be in trouble. And then....the rain.

It rained so hard that within 15 minutes the puddles had currents and were up past our ankles. We tried standing until the tent but it blew away. Plus, the park ranger told us to get away from the metal fence we were near. The bus was stuck in traffic somewhere so we had to wait. In the rain.

(A violent cloudburst dumped up to 3/4 of an inch of rain in 20 minutes this afternoon in metropolitan Boston, causing flash floods, pelting pedestrians with pea-sized hail, and uprooting trees with wind gusts near 50 miles per hour.)

And I had on a white t-shirt.

Oh, the joys of being new and being thrown into an embarrassing situation. Not only are 99% of the girls I work with skinny, trendy, pretty girls, but now I'm here in a white wet shirt clinging to all that is me.

Luckily the bus made it and we all boarded and went back to the office. Fun day was cut about 2 hours short. I'm actually secretly glad because it was kind of awkward sitting there not knowing anyone yet. They were all in their little groups and I don't have one yet. Tonight's looking like it'll be fun though, so hopefully I'll have a better story then.

So here's a picture of me after fun day. Beautiful, I know. :)

Fun Day's Here!!!

I won't be at a computer all day-so enjoy your Friday...I don't know what we'll have to do on this scavenger hunt, ready for some funny stories. :)

Snack Time!

I had to post something to get those weird people from my view!!

I know I keep talking about how great my new job is-but really-it's awesome. Get this-today we had "Snack Time". What's snack time you ask? It's a company sponsored time when a different person each week makes anything they want for us to eat. Every Thursday at 3pm we get a new snack.

Today, it was Indian food (which I happen to like a lot). We have $50 to spend. And this happens every Thursday. And it's sort of a competition to out-do each other too-so it's always good!

This place is great...

Thirteen Reasons Why Some Girls Stay Single...

Thirteen Reasons Why Some Girls Stay Single!

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

4.5 hours in a car is brutal. Especially when 2.5 are in the car with your mother and father.

It helps that there is an open bar at the final destination.

Two of my favorite people in the whole world both love the world skadoosh from Kung Fu Panda. Which is funny to me, because there is almost a 30 year difference between them. :)

It's funny when a 6 year old tells you that she doesn't swim in the pool alone because your sister had a bad dream about you. It's even funnier when she won't tell you what it was about because she doesn't want to say it out loud.

Apparently my leg got bitten off by a shark.

It's a bummer when you have the day off and it rains so you can't go to the beach like you planned. It's also a bummer when you have that day off and you sold your tickets to the Sox game for that night.

It stinks knowing that one of your favorite people in the whole world is a couple of miles away and you can't hang out. Especially when that person is the one who bought your tickets!!

New jobs are stressful but a welcome breakfast always makes it better.

Friday is fun day! What's fun day you ask? It's a day when the office is closed and we go to breakfast at the Hard Rock in Boston, have a scavenger hunt in teams and then spend the rest of the day on the Common. With free food and drink. AND THEN we go to a partners house to have a fun party.

Trouble with that-I'm going to be one of the only ones that doesn't have anyone with them. Might be awkward. Especially when I don't know many people yet.

First Day!

As you all know, today was my first day at my new job. My hours are M-F 9-5 with an hour for lunch. That's a pretty sweet deal-except I usually like to be out earlier. I am not, however, a morning person, so being able to sleep each morning until 7:30/8:00 is fantastic. This morning I woke up at 7:30 and actually made myself breakfast and coffee. That hasn't happened in...well, never. I'm always eating in the car on the way to the office. This is going to be great!

This morning I walked around with a coworker and was introduced to all of the nice people. After that, I attended my welcome breakfast! Yup-they had bagels and quiche and fruit and coffee (and granola and yogurt) brought in for all of us so everyone could come and meet me! Isn't that fantastic?!?! I thought so...

My desk is way cool too-the best part about it is that the lighting is very low. I get really bad headaches from bright fluorescent lights and I often ask the maintenance people to take a few bulbs out over my desk. (And it's still too bright). Well, this place is perfect!! Plus, we have windows on all sides of the building so we have a cool view no matter where we look. Did I mention that I have free parking in a garage across the street? No more burning my hands on the steering wheel or (in the winter) brushing off the snow that built up while I was at work.

We have fun day on Friday. Because I was sitting with the office manager today, I found out that we're having breakfast at the Hard Rock downtown then having a scavenger hunt all over the city. The ending location is on the Common where we'll be able to do whatever we want-sit and read, play wiffle ball, eat free food and drink free drinks...whatever. After that we'll go back to the office and disperse to our homes. We'll meet up again an hour later at one of the partners houses for a party. They have a pool and hot tub (which I won't be going in) a home theater (which I'll have to check out for my dad) and lots of food and drink. I'm going to be one of the only people there without a date, so I'm a tiny bit nervous, but I'll survive.

Most of the people are about my age and so far, 2 of the girls seem to really like me (and I like them too). I think this was a good move on my part-but only time will tell for sure.

Thanks for all of the good luck wishes today!!

Toosdae ?'s

Last night while I was compiling these questions I heard fireworks somewhere in the city. Usually the building directly next to me blocks my view (as was the case on the night the Celtics won). But last night, I had a clear view-I'm not sure why there were fireworks on a random Monday, but it was neat to see them flying high above the city...from my living room window. :) Day one of my new job today-I probably won't get to a computer until I get home, but I'd LOVE it if I saw LOTS and LOTS of answers in my comment section!!

1. What's your favorite kind of bread? What do you like to spread on it?

2. Whatever your position on your belief of God, if you found out beyond any doubt that you were wrong, how much do you think you would change how you live your life?

3. You’re cleaning house and you find pornography: would you be more upset if you realized that it belonged to your spouse, your child, or your parents?

1. Well, I basically love most bread-but my favorite for eating before a meal is a rosemary foccacia, already oiled and seasoned. And by accident one night in the kitchen after service I found out that fresh honey from a honeycomb is a fantastic spread for it!

2. I think it would change my life significantly. Right now I believe in God and often cast my worries in His direction, and put a lot of faith in knowing that everything will always work out as long as I believe. Without that, I don't know how I would get through the hard times.

3. Well, considering I live alone, I'd be mighty shocked!! But if I lived with any of the people mentioned above, I would have to say I'd be most disturbed if it were my parents porn. I know they're human, but...ick.

Manic Monday: Night do you like my new look? It took me a few hours to actually get the header done the way I liked it, but I'm pleased with how it came out. Green is my favorite color, so it makes me happy when I see it on my blog!

The reason I switched my template is because I wanted to start using Entrecard here-and you can't do it apparently when you have "old blogger" which I had with my other template. I know that most of you like new blogger better, but I have to tell you-I don't. I guess I'm just used to html and find it to be less fussy. Maybe that'll change after I play a bit now I have an entrecard widget and I've also added a picture collage-which I might change later, who knows? But as you can see, I was up late last night getting it all set for you today.

(And therefore don't have a good post today!)

I have today off from work. Tomorrow I start my new job and I'm mostly excited about it. As with any new life change it's a little nerve racking; will the people like me? Will I do well? Will I like them? I know I'll love the hours and the commute and the pay is a bit higher too-so I'm sure it'll be fine, right? Right.

I really wanted to go to the beach either yesterday or today-but it's been rainy and thundery and it just doesn't look like it's going to I'm stuck inside with nothing much to do. Looks like laundry and cleaning for this girl today!

That's all I've got for now-I hope you all have a great Monday-and don't forget to go see Morgen today for lots of Manic Monday fun!!

What's Cookin? Pulled Pork!

It's hard to live in Boston and not be excited for the Celtics. From rallies to baseball games, our World Champions are everywhere, and we love it! To honor our finals MVP Paul Pierce (whose favorite thing to eat is rumored to be soul food) here is a fantastic soul filled recipe for a BBQ pulled pork sandwich.

Dry Rub:
2 T. Kosher Salt
2 T. Pepper
2 T. Paprika
2 T. Dark Brown Sugar
1/2 T. Cayenne Pepper

Other Ingredients:
4 # Pork Roast, Shoulder
2 C. Apple Juice
1 C. Apple Cider Vinegar
2 T. Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 T. Liquid Smoke (may be omitted, but it's oh-so-good!)
1/2 T. Garlic Powder

6 Rolls of your choice
BBQ Sauce

1. Mix the dry rub together and sprinkle it onto the pork roast. Be sure to really press it into the meat so it sticks. Cover the pork and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

2. Combine the liquid ingredients and the garlic powder in a slow cooker. Add the pork and cover. Slow cook on low for 4 hours or until the pork shreds easily.

3. Remove the pork, shred it, make it into a sammich and enjoy!

Note: If you do not have a slow cooker, you can cook these in a 325 degree oven. Just be sure to cover the pork with aluminum foil and baste the meat at least every hour.
