Rain Delays

Last night I experienced my very first rain delay. It poured here in Boston and for someone who works at a ballpark that means lots of extra overtime. Unexpected overtime. And also, lots of extra drunk people.

We're supposed to stay open until the end of the third inning. Which usually takes until about 8:30/9:00 and then we begin cleaning up the kitchen and the line. But last night the game didn't even START until 9:30! The club was entirely packed with people who didn't want to wait outside in the cold and that translated into LOTS of extra drunk people who wanted to eat.

We were all wondering if we'd actually stay open for all 3 innings and honestly, we were worried because we were didn't want to have to dig into the food we prepped for today. That would be a lot of extra work for us. We were also worried that the game would be called and we'd have to come in for a double header. From what I hear, those are NOT fun.

Luckily the game was played and we were able to close during the first inning. There were a few people who were mad that we didn't stay open, but seriously folks, we stayed open 2 hours longer than we usually did!

Needless to say, I hope that the rest of the season is DRY. At least when they are home.

Wow! That's pretty interesting. I know nothing about baseball and all the things that go with it... (being rained out and having to play double headers) Sounds like it can be a real pain for a lot of people when the weather doesn't cooperate.

Mags, when did you get a job at the ballpark? Boy, that serves me right for not keeping up with your blog! :D

Isn't it funny how people want what they want and don't stop to realize that they have actually received more than they deserved?

Or something like that.
