No, this isn't a recipe post. This is a post about how Maggie Moo was prescribed cough medicine with codeine in it and is feeling a little loopy at work.
I've had a cough for about 2 weeks now, yet I feel fine. I have no other symptoms associated with a cold or flu, I don't have pneumonia or bronchitis either-I simply have the coughs. Dry, barking, not so attractive coughs that make my throat soar and my sleep interrupted.
Last year this happened (or the year before?) and they gave me an inhaler. They told me that a cough is like an itch and that once you scratch it (or cough) it itches (or makes you cough) more. It's a vicious cycle, the doctor said.
Today, he gave me codeine. Beside the fact that I have trouble taking liquid medicine (it makes me gag) this stuff is potent! He said, "Take the full dose today and see how it effects you. If you're really sensitive to it, take half a dose."
Gee, thanks doc. In the meantime, I'm drooling at my desk, laughing at every little thing and hiccuping at various times during phone calls.
But hell, my cough is gone.

Sorry to hear you have a cough and hope you are feeling better soon. I hate having a cough especially at night. It is almost impossible to go to sleep so I know how you must feel.
Get better soon.
This is why I don't like taking medication.
cough syrup with codeine is the bomb. Once you get used to the dosage. and try not to take it just before bed, the dreams are wacky tacky
I would definitely take Sparky's advice about not before bed...Seriously screwed up dreams. I do hope you feel better soon though!
Well Mags, it isn't often that you can get paid while being looped. Hope the cough syrup works. :)
I was prescribed Robitussen with codeine once while in college. I took it to help me sleep through the night, but it only made it worse....I was up practically every other hour!
Good luck and be careful driving home.
I took this stuff once and talk about being a Space Cadet! Whee!!
Hope you feel better soon!
hope you didn't have to drive home honey, tell the cop it is medicine and i KNOW he will believe you, yeah, that's it... be careful!
smiles, bee
xoxo
I can't even take daytime cold or sinus meds b/c it makes me loopy!
I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you'll sleep well tonight!
Why do they tell you to take the full dose like that? It should be the reverse, shouldn't it? Isn't it better to take a smaller dose and see if that works, then increase it if you need?
On the other hand, I'll bet it was fun watching silly loopy Mags!
LOL!
My experiance: Rest, Fresh air and Chicken soup. Anything with Codeine cannot be good for you or the cough.
My husband has the same cough. You two haven't been "gettin' friendly" behind my back have you?
No of course not, you'd be to busy coughing at eachother and he's terribly shy.
I hope it goes away soon! Happy dreaming with that codeine. It gave me bad nightmares. I ended up sleeping on the stairs (don't ask).
Take Care,
-P
Medicine that's supposed to make me sleepy or keep me awake along with making me feel better... always makes me goofy. And that's just the over the counter stuff. Might have something to do with being a little goofy naturally.
I hope you get over the cough soon.
Oh my! I sure hope you feel better soon. But it must feel silly being lit at work!
Woohooo!!
have you got the Lauren Bacall voice goin' on?
Update: I took full dose last night prior to going to be and slept well...no weird dreams.
Today I took 1/2 dose at work and I'm not loopy like I was yesterday, but I am dizzy and sleepy. I'd love to curl up in my fluffy bed and rest, but I can't.
Mags = loopy.
Heee heee!
:)
