Some of you may have read this article about the prayer letters that washed up on the Jersey Shore recently.
I wish it was never written.
First, God doesn't need a letter opener. The fact that the words spilled onto the page is enough. In fact, words weren't even necessary. But some people don't think the way I do. And an unopened letter is an unopened letter, and therefore, their prayers are not heard.
I hope that instead of reading the article and feeling like the pastor they were written to neglected the prayers, that people will realize that instead, God is listening.
Afterall, the letters did end up near Atlantic City...perhaps a certain someone will wander there to find his letter and end up winning $50,000-twice.
No one ever said He doesn't have a sense of humor...

I agree with you 100% on this. I sort of think it was noble that they were closed. After all, it IS a federal offense to read someone else's mail. :-)
Perhaps, the pastor realized that those were people's private thoughts to god and felt he had no real business intervening. I like to think that that is what was going on there.
For all anyone knows he did put them on the altar and pray over them. I'd like to think that he wasn't a neglectful pastor. Perhaps he wasn't a nosy one either and thought the best way to help was to let God do the work. If those people really wanted specific help with those issues they might have asked the pastor. What was he supposed to do with the letters then? He couldn't leave them on the altar, evidently he didn't want to throw them away either.
